Masticatory biomechanics in the rabbit: a multi-body dynamics analysis

چکیده
Multi-body dynamics is a powerful engineering tool which is becoming increasingly popular for the simulation and analysis of skull biomechanics. This paper presents the first application of multi-body dynamics to analyse the biomechanics of the rabbit skull. A model has been constructed through the combination of manual dissection and three-dimensional imaging techniques (magnetic resonance imaging and micro-computed tomography). Individual muscles are represented with multiple layers, thus more accurately modelling muscle fibres with complex lines of action. Model validity was sought through comparing experimentally measured maximum incisor bite forces with those predicted by the model. Simulations of molar biting highlighted the ability of the masticatory system to alter recruitment of two muscle groups, in order to generate shearing or crushing movements. Molar shearing is capable of processing a food bolus in all three orthogonal directions, whereas molar crushing and incisor biting are predominately directed vertically. Simulations also show that the masticatory system is adapted to process foods through several cycles with low muscle activations, presumably in order to prevent rapidly fatiguing fast fibres during repeated chewing cycles. Our study demonstrates the usefulness of a validated multi-body dynamics model for investigating feeding biomechanics in the rabbit, and shows the potential for complementing and eventually reducing in vivo experiments.

Dynamics, Stability Analysis and Control of a Mammal-Like Octopod Robot Driven by Different Central Pattern Generators
In this paper, we studied numerically both kinematic and dynamic models of a biologically inspired mammal-like octopod robot walking with a tetrapod gait. Three different nonlinear oscillators were used to drive the robot’s legs working as central pattern generators. In addition, also a new, relatively simple and efficient model was proposed and investigated. The introduced model of the gait ge...

This relationship has several applications in food texture analysis, control of prosthetic limbs, rehabilitation, and teleoperated robots. Materials and Methods: In this paper, w...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation Research on Dynamics of Missiles with Deflectable Nose Control
The dynamic characteristics of deflectable nose missiles with rotary single-channel control were investigated in this paper. Firstly, the effective angle of attack, effective angle of sideslip and quasi-body coordinates were introduced based on the spin characteristics of the missile’s body. Secondly, considering the interaction between the missile’s nose and body, the rigid kinetic model of mi...

The new testing facility is modelled using a three-dimensional model of the vehicl...
متن کاملHuman lower extremity joint moment prediction: A wavelet neural network approach
Joint moment is one of the most important factors in human gait analysis. It can be calculated using multi body dynamics but might not be straight forward. This study had two main purposes; firstly, to develop a generic multi-dimensional wavelet neural network (WNN) as a real-time surrogate model to calculate lower extremity joint moments and compare with those determined by multi body dynamics...
